Rustic Apple Pie

A rustic apple pie with a softer, cake-like crust and a shredded apple cinnamon filling!

Ingredients

AP flour powdered sugar baking powder salt egg yolks unsalted butter vanilla lemon zest sour cream cream of wheat

CRUST

apples lemon juice cinnamon powdered sugar

FILLING

STEP 1: Peel, core & shred apples, then combine with lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon & powdered sugar & let marinate for 10-15 minutes.

STEP 2: Place the apple mixture in a sieve, mixing to strain out some of the juice.

STEP 3: Combine flour, sugar, baking powder & salt. Add egg yolks, butter, lemon zest & sour cream. Mix with flat beater until combined.

STEP 4: Place half the dough on the bottom of a deep dish 9-inch pie pan & spread it like a crust coming all the way up the sides. Sprinkle cream of wheat on top of crust.

STEP 5: Spread filling over crust. Sprinkle cream of wheat on top of apple filling. Roll out the rest of the dough & lay on top of filling.

STEP 6: Use a fork to crimp edges & poke a few holes on top of crust. Bake at 350F for 40 minutes. Let it cool an hour before cutting.
