Chocolate almond cake is my  chocolate cake with chocolate chips & frosted with chocolate chip almond French buttercream.

STEP 1: Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder & salt. Beat oil & granulated sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then add sour cream & beat.

STEP 2: Mix in half the dry ingredients to the batter, then pour in the milk, followed by the rest of the dry ingredients. Fold in the chocolate chips.

STEP 3: Distribute batter among three 6-inch cake pans & bake on 350F for 30 minutes. Remove & allow the cake to cool.

STEP 4: Over medium heat, place the sugar in water and allot it to simmer. Whisk egg yolks in a stand mixer, then drizzle sugar syrup into the egg yolks.

STEP 5: Add 2 Tbsp of butter at a time, then add vanilla, almond and salt & mix.

STEP 6: Spread 1/4 of buttercream on 1st layer, repeat with 2nd layer, then place 3rd layer on top. Refrigerate the cake for 20 minutes.

STEP 7: Mix chocolate chips in remaining buttercream, then frost the outside of the cake. Refrigerate for 60 minutes.

STEP 8: Pour heated cream over chocolate chips, cover for 2 minutes, & stir until smooth. Allow to cool, then pour over cake & refrigerate for 15 minutes before serving.
