The ultimate breakfast treat, apple pop tarts, use a simple pie crust recipe filled with a brown sugar apple butter filling and topped with apple glaze!

Ingredients

PASTRY

all-purpose flour granulated sugar salted butter ice cold water egg

FILLING

GLAZE

apple butter light brown sugar all-purpose flour cinnamon

powdered sugar apple butter apple cider

STEP 1: For the pastry, place a food processor bowl in the freezer with flour and sugar. Cube the butter and add it to the bowl.

STEP 2: Remove the bowl from the freezer after 5 minutes and pulse in the food processor until pea sized chunks form.

STEP 3: Stream in the water until the dough barely sticks together. Remove and press it together. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate.

STEP 4: To assemble, combine cooled apple butter, light brown sugar, flour and cinnamon until smooth.

STEP 5: Use half of the pie crust to roll out into a 1/8” thick rectangle. Cut the edges to make the edges straight. Slice it into 3x4” rectangles.

STEP 6: Spread 1 tbsp of filling on half of the pieces. Place another sheet of dough on top and crimp the edges. Poke a few holes on the top.

STEP 7: Brush a layer of beaten eggs on the pastry and freeze for 20 min. Bake at 350F for 30min and cool. Repeat the steps with the remaining pastry.

STEP 8: For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, apple butter and apple cider. Spread it on the pop tarts and top with cinnamon when the glaze dries.
