My favorite, three layer 6 inch chocolate cake recipe. Basic and sturdy and pairs well with any frosting!



AP flour cocoa powder baking powder salt unsalted butter canola oil granulated sugar eggs sour cream milk

STEP 1: Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder & salt. Beat butter, oil & granulated sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then add sour cream & beat.

STEP 2: Mix in half the dry ingredients to the batter, then pour in the milk, followed by the rest of the dry ingredients.

STEP 3: Distribute batter among three 6-inch cake pans & bake on 350F for 30-35 minutes.

STEP 4: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 5 minutes and then invert them onto a tea towel or cooling rack. Then allow them to cool completely before frosting.
